Rev.
Gregory W. Norris, serving as assistant Pastor to Rev. Leroy Daniels
at Gilead Baptist Church in Newport News, Virginia, had a vision to
start God's work in the vicinity of Virginia Beach. He prayed about
this constantly, and finally sent letters of invitation out to
churches, informing them of his vision.
-
On June 25, 1995 a group of approximately 20 people met at the home of
Rev. and Mrs. Norris for the first meeting and Worship Service.
Many of us, (struggling with problems like the early Church in
Saul's time), believed that this was Divine Intervention, and was
very happy to join with this group, whose leader, (Rev. Norris) we
firmly believe was called by God.
-
Our meeting and Worship Service went very well, we were blessed as we
felt the presence of God's Holy Spirit in our midst, and God's name
was truly glorified. Two people accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior
of their lives, and all of us present, rededicated our lives to
Service for God.
-
On
Wednesday, June 28, 1995, we were informed that Rev. Norris (with
God's guidance) found a place for us to meet and worship, at the
Chesapeake Youth Center on 1708 Rokeby Ave in Chesapeake, VA. On
Sunday July 9, 1995, our first Worship Service was held at this new
location.
-
We
held two other Worship Services (as Friendship Baptist Mission) at
this location. On Sunday, July 30, 1995 we were chartered as
Friendship Baptist Church with 44 people signing as Foundation
Members.
-
Today,
we lift our hearts and raise our voices to God in THANKSGIVING for
the many blessings He has bestowed on us!
